2022 Shaw Charity Classic

Posted by EyePromise on Aug 24th 2022

In professional golf, there are actually two main tours: the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions, commonly referred to as the Champions Tour. The main difference is that the Champions Tour is for the “senior” men in professional golf. To the golf world, “senior” is defined when a player turns 50 years old. Another unique difference is that there is no cut on Champions Tour events.

While the Champions tour does have a different set of tournaments, the level of competition is still incredibly high. One of the tournaments just ended a few weeks ago called the Shaw Charity Classic. Here’s what you should know.

What Is the Shaw Charity Classic?

Typically played in Canada, the Shaw Charity Classic is a professional golf tournament that was first played in 2013. The 54-hole tournament is scored by stroke play and has been hosted at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary, Alberta, every year. It has become a staple of summer golf and won the President’s Award as the top event on the Champions Tour three times.

The charity tournament got its start thanks to a group of Calgary business groups known as “The Patron Group.” Since its inception, the Shaw Charity Classic has raised more than $76 million for over 230 Alberta children and youth charities.

The 2022 Shaw Charity Classic

Like past tournaments, the 2022 Shaw Charity Classic was held August 3rd-7th. This year’s competition was intense, ending with a tie between two golfers at the end of the regulation 54 holes. After the playoff round, Jerry Kelly took home first, with John Huston finishing second. EyePromise® ambassadors Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington join in the fun of this well-known tournament. Montgomerie finished 9th overall, and Harrington found himself tied for third thanks to a few great shots, including this birdie on the par-4 15th hole.

The Secret to Padraig’s Success

Padraig Harrington has been building momentum during this year’s Champions Tour. His first year in the tour, Harrington recently brought home the first-place trophy for the U.S. Senior Open. Since, he’s continued to put on strong performances, and he’s thanking EyePromise for that.

“Putting comes down to confidence, and as I got older, I was struggling with reading the greens. I was introduced to EyePromise almost two years ago, and within 4 months of taking the eye vitamins, I could pick up the change in contrast of the greens much better. This gave me more confidence in reading the putts, and my stats began to improve. Two years later, I genuinely feel that taking EyePromise vitamins has helped me.”
