What Is Visual Performance?
When it comes to athletic performance, eye health is often left off the list of ways to improve. The truth is: vision plays a huge role in performance. If any part of your vision or perception is off, it could mean the difference between making and missing a play. Visual performance is the term given to the ability of your eyes to function at their best. Some factors that can affect visual performance include:
Visual acuity – the sharpness of your vision, usually measured using an eye chart.

Contrast sensitivity – distinguishing minor differences in objects like being the subtle slopes on a golf green.

Light sensitivity (photophobia) – an intolerance to light, causing discomfort and/or the eyes to squint.
Glare recovery – the ability to see “normally” again after being exposed to a bright light like after looking into the headlights of a passing car.
Photostress recovery – the time it takes the eye to return to normal function after being exposed to a bright light source.
Visual processing speed – this is the time it takes for your eyes to see a visual stimulus and transmit that information to the brain, and the brain to interpret that information and make a decision.
Improving Visual Performance Through Nutrition
Few people know that there’s a strong relationship between what you eat and your eye health. Certain visual functions are heavily impacted by the nutrients in our food. Foods that contain ingredients like zeaxanthin, lutein, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, and Omega-3s are all great additions to the daily diet.
Give Yourself an Edge

While these nutrients are found in food sources, they are surprisingly scarce in the Standard American Diet. Even if we do eat our share of leafy greens and brightly colored vegetables, we’d need to eat 20 ears of corn a day to get the amount of zeaxanthin our eyes need to improve and maintain visual performance.

Many eye care providers recommend supplementation to fill this all-too-common dietary gap. EyePromise is the #1 doctor-recommended eye vitamin brand, and we’ve created a line of vitamins dedicated to people like you looking to improve their performance from the eyes down. Trusted by collegiate, professional, and Olympic athletes, EyePromise’s performance vitamins are of the highest quality and NSF Certified for Sport.

What Kind of Performance Support Are You Looking for?

What Makes Vizual Edge Better?
Zeaxathin
This critical antioxidant is chosen by the retina to protect central vision. Additionally, zeaxanthin is accumulated in the fovea (center of the retina) 2 times more than lutein. While the eye itself chooses to include more zeaxanthin in its own protection, most eye vitamins choose to match the ratio found in the diet, which is 5 to 1 lutein to zeaxanthin. EyePromise recongnizes the importance and scarcity of zeaxanthin and, therefore, chooses to include 4x more than other products.
Lutein
While zeaxanthin is extremely important, lutein is no scrub. This antioxidant plays an important role in protecting vision from dangerous blue light, and it's been found to help support many other parts of the body.

We know what you’re thinking. “Where’s the proof?” We’ll spare you the long scientific rambling, but here are a few of the clinical results.
  • It's been shown that taking 8 mg of zeaxanthin can improve visual sharpness and clarity. Read the study!

  • This research found that 8 mg of zeaxanthin can help people see better while driving at night, even if they're elderly. Read the study!

  • These researchers discovered that supplementing with dietary zeaxanthin and lutein improves photostress recovery by 5 seconds, meaning it gives you an additional 440ft. of decision-making while driving 60 mph. Read the study!

  • Research shows that supplementing with 20+ mg of dietary zeaxanthin and 10+ mg of dietary lutein can increase reaction time by 10%, even in young, healthy adults! Read the study!

  • Contrast sensitivity and light sensitivity are also improved through supplementation. Read the study!

  • Another study of young, healthy adults found that high-dose dietary zeaxanthin and lutein supplements can improve contrast sensitivity and other visual functions. Read the study!
