2025 PGA Championship
Posted by EyePromise on May 13th 2025
As one of the four major tournaments on the PGA Tour, the PGA Championship has no problem drawing a crowd – both in potential competitors and spectators. The 2025 PGA Championship officially starts tomorrow, but the tournament has had activities throughout the week. Needless to say, it’s going to be one exciting show!
The Location
This year’s PGA Championship is held at the famed Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s often considered to be “one of the finest courses in the U.S.” Its members are honored to host such a prestigious event this week (May 12-18), and the players competing in the PGA Championship look forward to competing at this particular course.
The Field
The field of golfers competing in this year’s PGA Championship span ages and experience. From veterans like EyePromise ambassador Padraig Harrington and past winners like Xander Schauffele to newcomers like 17-year-old Blades Brown, this vast array ought to make an exciting tournament.
One of the biggest stories for this tournament is Jordan Spieth’s grand slam opportunity. A grand slam on the PGA Tour means winning all four major tournaments (the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and the Open Championship), and only 6 golfers have ever accomplished this feat. The most recent, Rory McIlroy, just completed his grand slam last month by winning the 2025 Masters, bringing even more attention to Spieth’s chance.
The Tournament
The PGA Championship starts with practice rounds on Monday that continue through today (Wednesday), with the championship rounds beginning tomorrow at 7am local time. Groups of three will tee off at holes 1 and 10, with all competitors fighting to be in the Wanamaker Trophy Presentation Ceremony on Sunday.
After an exciting sudden death match at the Masters last month, the tournament website noted these as the steps in the event of a tie for first place after 72 holes:
- A three-hole aggregate score play-off on Holes 16, 17, and 18.
- If there is no winner, a hole-by-hole play-off starts on Hole 18.
- If still tied, Holes 16, 17, and 18 repeated.
Best of luck to all competitors! Catch all the action LIVE on ESPN and ESPN+!
