What Vitamin E Does for Kids' Health
Posted by EyePromise on Apr 24th 2019
There are literally hundreds of vitamins and nutrients that are "needed" for your child to grow up healthy and happy. Is Vitamin E actually needed? Here are 2 huge reasons vitamin E should be included in your child's nutritional intake.
1. Protects Eye Health
Vitamin E helps protect your kids' vision long-term. Age-related eye health issues occur as we age. But, research shows people who take consistent doses of Vitamin E (combined with other antioxidants) showed improvement in mitigating the effects of these issues.
2. Free-Radical Protection
Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant in the body and helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals (compounds formed when our bodies convert food into energy or outside sources like pollution, cigarette smoke, etc.). Free radicals can cause havoc on the body, causing healthy cells to break down. Studies also show that Vitamin E can support immunity.
Vitamin E Deficiency
The good news: Vitamin E deficiency is incredibly rare in children. According to Very Well Family, children who are at risk of developing a deficiency include:
- Premature babies
- Children with malabsorption who can't absorb fat-soluble vitamins, including children with Crohn's disease and cystic fibrosis
- Children with abetalipoproteinemia, a rare health concern that affects how they make and digest fats and fat-soluble vitamins
- Children with rare genetic conditions that affect the transfer proteins that maintain normal Vitamin E levels in the blood
