The Charles Schwab Cup 2022

Posted by EyePromise on Nov 2nd 2022

For many people, the fall season signifies the end of the PGA season. However, for those golfers on the PGA Tour Champions, late fall means playoff tournaments, specifically the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. This tournament is huge for the Champions Tour and is a monumental conclusion to the regular season. Here’s what you need to know.

What Is the Charles Schwab Cup?

Started back in 2021, the Charles Schwab Cup is the ultimate culmination of a season-long battle between golfers on the PGA TOUR Champions. This earnings-based competition helps determine the top player on the Champions Tour. Participants are determined based on the financial winnings they’ve accumulated over the season, which is converted to the Charles Schwab Cup Points List.

The Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs

The Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs are comprised of 3 tournaments and determine the winner of the Charles Schwab Cup. The top 72 golfers on the Point List will advance to the first playoff event: the Dominion Energy Charity Classic. This year, the 54-hole match was held at the Country Club of Virginia on October 21-23. It was an excellent demonstration of the skill that floods the PGA TOUR Champions. After a close race to the finish, Steven Alker took first over K.J. Choi by one stroke. This earns Alker $335,000 and a huge boost in ranking, as Playoff wins are worth double points.

TimberTech Championship is the second tournament of the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. This 54-hole event hosts just 54 golfers and is being held October 31-November 6 at the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club. The winner of this tournament earns $305,000 as well as double points.

Finally, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship is the last event of the season for the PGA Tour Champions and concludes the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. Held November 10-13 at the Phoenix Country Club, this tournament will offer 36 golfers a chance to win the FedEx Cup, but they must atop the leaderboard after 72 holes of competition.
